Holton BBb BAT FS

Post by Sam Gnagey »

Here's a great playing Holton 6/4 BBb that I'm offering for sale. It is the best example of this model that I've seen. It has a great sound and the scale is very well in tune. You'll find the response is even in all registers with a wall-shaking low F and surprisingly easy upper range. It is in great shape considering that it's around 35 years old. The lacquer is original at over 95%. Valves are tight and slides pull smoothly. The unlovely side of it is the bell which has had some rough treatment leading to a couple of small holes which we've patched with low-temp silver solder. Despite that the bell is very sound and strong. We're asking $5500 for it. If you're interested in it contact me by private email.

I think Bill Clark, the tuba proffessor at Denver University, has one of these. He can sure get some amazing sounds out of his. If only I had the $$$...

When you say it's pretty in tune, do you mean just for an old Holton or in general compared to other BB flats? Not to stir anything up but I was just curious.

When I said that it played very well in tune, I meant compared to the best BBb tubas in general. There is a buyer for it now.
