Musica 4/4 CC $1750 - SOLD

Post by zac.spurlin »

I am selling my Musica CC 4/4 tuba. I am asking $1750.00 for this horn. This is German made and from what I was told when I purchased this horn in 2003 was that it was a stencil horn made at the VMI factory. I am the original owner and have used this horn for various concert band, quintet, and orchestra gigs. There are a few intonation issues but are easily manageable with a little slide pulling. There are a few dings in the bell and a few in the bottom bow and I hope they all come through in the pics. Overall a good horn and got me into the CC world. The horn is 42.75 inches tall and 16.5 inch bell.

Included is an Altieri bag with the bell cover as seen in the pics. The horn is located in Stockton, CA and I am willing to ship at buyers expense. Price is negotiable as this horn is just sitting in the corner not being used. Would love to get this horn in the hands of someone that will play it!

Pm or email with any other questions.

 You have an amazing price for this tuba + bag! This tuba is worth much more than that; someone will get a GREAT deal if they buy this tuba/bag. I really like this model, as I played a couple of them back when UMI (Conn-Selmer) were selling them. With all the new flavor-of-the-month/getting-more-expensive Chinese tubas out these days, real-deal quality German-made tubas like this are a complete bargain  If you are looking into a really good 5rv 4/4 German CC made in the traditional design, and with an Alexander-esque sound but with easier intonation, you should seriously look into this tuba; especially at this crazy-low price.

If I had the $1750 it would be mine :tuba: Someone please buy this nice tuba!

Is this the same as the short-lived tall/skinny B&S PT4?

^ I wish I had a way to scan and upload pics from my old catalogs. But looking thru my old Custom Music catalog of the short-lived tall 'prototype' PT-4, it is a slightly different horn from this Musica CC. The biggest difference is that the prototype/tall PT-4 had a much larger 19" bell; making it sorta like the CC version of the PT-1 BBb. But I think the bugle and valveset are more or less the same between this tuba here and the old tall PT-4.
This Musica CC is more of an updated/continuation of the old B&S 101 'Sonora', but in CC.

Bump for a great 5rv CC for cheap :tuba:

Any specifics on the intonation you would care to share?
Also, how would you compare this to a comparable 186? Darker, brighter, edgier or more solid at FFF, etc

^ Until Zac chimes in, I will write what I can remember about that model.
It's been years since I played it, but I really liked it (played it for a long time @ the UMI booth when noone else was even in the large room). If there were any pitch issues, they were minor ones I didn't really notice. Response-wise and sound-wise, more comparable to a M-W 32 --> darker, sweeter and more solid at louder dynamics than a Mira 186. I could tell - even at the time - that it was a VMI/B&S tuba, even though it had 'Musica' on the bell!
I also liked the VMI-made Musica BBb model, which I played at a music store close to town.

I actually ended up buying this horn, so I can report back once it ships from CA to CT. Many thanks to Zac for being super professional and easy to deal with.

I anticipate it to be a nice upgrade from my Mack Brass 410.

Thanks so much for all the great words toobagrowl. I would say overall that the horn has a nice darker sound with some presence. What I liked about this horn is that it supported my playing style which is a more felt than heard kind of approach. I am not one to be out in front with my sound, if that makes sense but more behind the scenes type of sound. Packing the horn and getting ready to ship! Hope you enjoy the horn as much as I did. Thanks Blake!
