A band director friend of mine (not on this board) asked me to help him sell this for him, as he doesn't really use it much. The story he told me was that at his previous teaching job, a family gave him this instrument knowing he's a tuba player. It belonged to grandpa and hadn't been played for years. He gave it to me to clean up a bit. I gave it a bath, took out a few dents, and made a brace that was missing for the neck receiver, and polished it up. The bell has some creases that I couldn't address on my own.
It is an Eb sousaphone made by Pan American. It is frosted silver with bright silver on the engraving and gold wash inside the bell. The case is a nice purple velvet interior. The strap that holds the two halves together is broken and the handle on the outside is missing and has been rigged up with some lovely gift-wrap ribbon.
It has the original neck, bit, and mouthpiece (marked E-BASS). The valves are very worn, but still have some pop with thick valve oil. I used it at our alumni marching band a few years ago just for fun. I was able to play it in tune with a Helleberg 7B (it's a small shank mouthpiece that comes with it. The 7B just kind of sat barely in the bit). It's got a nice light, bouncy, sound to it.
Price is $650 plus shipping via greyhound. It should be very well protected in the case. I will help him prepare it for shipping. Please contact the owner, Joe Albright if you are interested. His phone number is 4 zero 2 - two 1 four - nine one 6 8. Text or call. Email is joe (dot) albright 54 (at) gmail (dot) com. The horn is located in Lincoln, NE. He took all the pictures and has the horn in his possession, so I don't have access to it if there are requests for more specific photos I'm afraid, but if you text or call him, he can get you what you need.
Thanks for looking!
