Mouthpieces (Giddings, G&W, Parker/Houser/Sellmansberger)

Post by smitha79 »

All of the mouthpieces below are American or standard shank, unless noted and the price includes shipping in the US. Here are some pictures:https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... sp=sharing

$150 - Giddings Fossi (polished stainless steel) - contra bass tuba mouthpiece has an inner rim of 1.290 (32.75 mm) and a throat of .335 (8.5mm). With a deep funnel shaped cup and very comfortable semi round rim. The inner bite of the rim is relatively sharp giving control over articulations and clarity over the entire spectrum of the orchestral tubists rep. There is only one shank size, in between Euro and Standard .528 (13.41 mm)

$170 - Giddings DiCesare, contrabass (stainless steel) - This large size contra bass tuba mouthpiece is suited for all orchestral tuba needs. The Deep funnel cup, moderate throat combined with a narrow rim width and slightly larger inner rim diameter produce an intense focused sound that is easy to play high to low. Rim is 1.31, throat .321, with a deep funnel shape cup.

$75 – Giddings&Webster Bora (polished stainless steel) - a medium size F/Eb tuba mouthpiece. Designed for playing in small to medium large ensembles. Rim is 1.255, and the throat is .318 in diameter, medium deep bowl shape cup.

$95 – Giddings&Webster Baer CC (MMVI) - Like the original Signature Model mouthpiece with a flatter narrower rim on it and added a bit of mass around the throat of the mouthpiece, and using harder 15-5 stainless steel. For folks who like a traditional flat rim with a sharper inner bite for their orchestral tuba playing needs. Rim diameter 32.91mm, 1.295 inches Throat 8.16mm, .321 inches

Parker/Houser mouthpieces
$50 – Shanks: Helleberg
$60 – Cups: Sellmansberger Orchestra Grand, Hersey
$70 – Extra-deep Rims: M.O. X-D HBG MOD 32.68 mm, XD 32.6 B
$35 - Rim for 2-piece mouthpieces - Helleberg Large

The Parker-Hersey model has a large-sized cup and works well for larger instruments and ensembles. This mouthpiece has a unique and rich, dark, focused tone. This mouthpiece pairs well specifically with bigger tubas, but also adds a new dimension of depth to smaller horns.

The Sellmansberger Orchestra Grand is a symphonic style cup that is slightly broader at the top of the cup, as compared to the Symphony cup, and has slightly more volume. It can also be used with the Symphony screw shanks to give you more options. When used with the Symphony shanks, it features a counterbored throat for fast, low range response. The Grand shanks have a more standard, parallel bore, offering more resistance.
