Hello, all!
After some serious thinking, I've decided to once and for all put up my beloved Besson Eb tuba for trade. I've gone back and forth over the years on whether I wanted to get a different bass tuba, and after finally deciding to stick with this horn for good, a nasty little ailment called Carpal Tunnel Syndrome has forced me to look for something else after all.
The horn is quite an interesting one. Instead of the stock Besson bell, this horn has a Conn 4J bell. This tightens up the sound a little bit, as the Conn bell is around 18" as opposed to the standard 19" Besson bell. I've used this horn for several years now, including professional performances all over the country. I'll include a video of a recent-ish performance at the bottom of this post. The horn has some noticeable finish wear, particularly in the handle where your hand rests--I've included pictures of that. There is a noticeable dent on the bottom of the side bow guard, which is also included below. None of these affect the playability in any way. When you give it a nice polish, it still looks great. The horn has the original leadpipe, which means that it takes the old Imperial shank. That means you either have to use the Denis wick mouthpieces without the "L", or get a mouthpiece custom made from a place like Doug Elliott. I've used either a Denis Wick 2 or 3 for the entire time I've had the horn, and it has worked great. Any trade or sale will include both mouthpieces, as I'd no longer have a need for them. The horn also comes with an Altieri gig bag custom made for it (rain cap is missing, but bag otherwise in good condition).
In terms of a trade, I'm looking for an F tuba of any kind, and am pretty neutral towards the brand and model. Sorry, but the only Chinese horns I'll accept are Eastman at this time. If at all possible, I'd like to make an even trade, as well. Let me know what you have!
