SOLD: Mirafone TE-186A 5v CC - $2,000 OBO

For sale is my Mirafone TE-186A CC tuba. It has five valves with the old Miraphone major 3rd 5th valve. This is a fantastic example of the model and has served me well for almost ten years, including winning 2nd prize at the NERTEC Mock Orchestral competition this past year. The intonation is good and it has a classic German sound. I’ve used it for large/small ensembles and solo repertoire with great results. As far as I know, I am the 3rd owner of this instrument. I’m selling because I’m looking to upsize for graduate school and professional auditions.

This instrument's bell was damaged by TSA while flying back from NERTEC. It has been rolled out; however, the bell has lacquer damage. There are a couple of other dings and lacquer wear, but nothing that affects the intonation or sound. Everything will be pictured!

Full disclosure:

There is extensive red rot throughout the inner wrap of the instrument. This showed up shortly after I purchased the instrument, and unfortunately, it was too late to reverse the damage; it was only noticed once it had gotten all the way through from the inside. The parts will have to be replaced within the next few years. This would be a great project horn for someone interested in refurbishing it later on. Red rot will be shown in pictures so you can make the call!

The instrument is currently located in Orono, Maine. It will be in South Portland around mid-May after the semester ends. The price includes a Gard bag in okay condition and a PT-64 mouthpiece. I'm willing to drive a reasonable distance. Local pickup is preferred, but shipping is available at buyer’s expense. Price is negotiable.
