*PENDING* Refurbished 1933 Conn 36J 6/4 BBb Tuba

Post by JKopis »

Hello everyone!

I am selling a refurbished 1933 Conn 36J BBb tuba. The overhaul was done by Beeman Brassworks, and details of it were outlined in an Instagram post as follows -

- Full rebuild, including reversing slides, custom detachable leadpipe and custom receiver
- Brushed brass with bright trim and touches, coated with baked-on epoxy developed by G.J. Nikolas & Co

The first and third tuning slides were also moved to the top so that they can be pulled while playing. Afterwards, the tuba was taken to Hauer Music Repairs and Restoration for additional repairs. The original owner then sold it on consignment to Buckeye Brass, which is where I purchased the instrument.

The instrument plays well, but the fourth valve will need some attention, as while it works, the compression isn't great, and it takes a high viscosity oil (or even slide grease) to get it moving. The other valves work well, and the instrument has a big, dark sound typical of American 6/4 BBb tubas.

I'm asking $3,500 OBO for the instrument. It will come with a Messina gig bag custom-made for the tuba, as well as the original hard cases for both the body and the upright bell, and I can throw in a mouthpiece and other goodies if requested. I can meet someone 2 hours from where I live, in Martinsville, Indiana, but I won't be able to ship this horn.

Here is a link to some pictures of the tuba.

Reach out if you have any other questions, want more pictures, a recording, etc. Thank you for your consideration!
