Hi all,
I've got this lovely beast for sale. A Circa 1956/57 Conn 20j BBb tuba with the front facing bell only. I HAVE CASES TOO! One for the bell and one for the rest of the horn. SERIAL NUMBER: 615864
I have seldom used this horn but have loved every single note on it. I have used it a couple times in big bands and once in a full concert in a Paul Whiteman Orchestra style ensemble (I have linked a recording of some Wagner we did in that concert below).
It has as big, warm, and fluffy of a sound as you would expect out of a horn like this as well as it being powerful. It really makes the case that tubas should go back to being front facing. My professor in college told me that these are some of the most efficient horns out there (and he tried them all believe me) and I have to agree with him. For such a large horn, it doesn't take nearly as much air as you would think to make it sing. I don't really need the tuba for my usual orchestral/wind ensemble duties so unfortunately I must let it go.
$2000 USD Located in the Boston/Providence area. Would strongly prefer not to ship, but if you are serious enough I could be convinced to go through the hassle. Just remember you are getting the horn, the bell, and a case for each. That is a lot of money in shipping costs for the buyer and quite some risk of loss as well. I would also consider driving to meet halfway depending on the distance.
If you would like pictures of the cases just let me know.
