I own the tuba now. It really didn't play great when I got it. I put the new larger modern bell on, cut roughly 4" off the leadpipe put on a reciever from a cerveny Bb and reversed a couple of the slides. When I took the leadpipe off it wasn't even round when going into the valve section, rather shocking , but after cutting it I rounded out and plays amazing now. It still has the alex tuning tendencies but plays really in tune with alternate fingerings, you just have to be to blow it right with the alternates. I also love the 23's 5th. 1&5 C# blow better and are smoother then 2&4, kinda freaks you out. On my previous fantastic Alex the low notes were difficult to tune without major slide pulling with the flat whole set but the 23's is much more versatile. I wish more modern horns had this set up.
