FS: Marzan 5/4+ BBb Tuba w/Upright and Recording Bells

Post by Gravid »

Marzan 4 slant-valve rotary BBb tuba w/both upright and recording bells. Silver plating is about 75% intact. The horn/bells are practically dent-free, and the main tuning slide is on the top. The valves all move smoothly and quickly, though a bit noisy (would improve w/new linkage). Also, all the slides move freely. This horn gets a BIG beefy sound. Not sure of the bore size, but it takes lots of air (alla Conn 20/24 J) and is an armload to carry. The upright bell measures 20", while the recording bell is 22". The recording bell also has a King emblem/shield on it, so it's clearly after-market. I'm not real clear on the history of this particular horn -- I traded it for another tuba, and the previous owner only had it a short while. I'll leave it to him, if he wants, to contribute to this thread. I do know that Carl K has worked on it (repaired broken valve linkage), so maybe he wouldn't mind chiming in? I originally planned to add RH thumb kicker to the main TS, but alas -- that's no longer in the cards. Note the black velcro on the upright bell -- previous owner played w/a mic. I left the velcro on the bell because I think it adds character:) Includes a new SKB case (fits horn w/upright bell). No case for the recording bell, and it's missing 1 bell screw (easily replaced). Pick up in Waxahachie, TX (20 min S of Dallas), or pay S/H from Dallas. $5,500 for a piece of history and perhaps the darkest sounding, coolest looking tuba you'll ever play on.
