Besson BBb compensating tuba. Serial # puts it at 1958/59. Was a model 226 Grand Orchestral Bass. Swapped out the recording bell for a 17” New Standard bell. American receiver with stand off lead pipe for better resonance. No carriage rings and no ball buster ever installed. Valves are in great condition with very little plating wear. Instrument has been well cared for. Comes with Altieri gig bag. No mp included. Wick 2 or 1 works very well on this horn. $2500

Yes it is. 1958 production model 226. Originally a recording bell tuba. Swapped a Besson New Standard 17" bell onto it. Plays really well. Lacquer is not pretty and bell has had some creases rolled out previously, but the body of the horn is in excellent condition.

and is this low pitch or was it converted? This may be irrelevant as I suspect this model was made for the American market anyway.

Hello Molefsky,
This horn has been sold, but it was a recording bell horn converted to upright using a 17" Besson New Standard bell. Easiest conversion I've ever had done. Bottom bow sizes were identical and stack heights matched perfectly. Most difficult part was getting mouthpipe to line up where I needed it because I didn't want it soldered to the bell. It has a new home in Virginia Beach. Foghorn
