Wessex cimbasso with stand for sale $3000/ sold!

Post by MikeMason »

My high school band director bought himself a Wessex cimbasso 4-5 years ago. Played it a few times then put in attic. I’ll get it out tomorrow and mess with it some. Looks like anywhere from 6700-4100 new for similar Chinese 5 rotor cimbassi, with the Wessex being the most expensive (justifiably or not). If in great shape, $3000.00 plus shipping ? Pictures soon. Let me know if anyone wants one of these.

Update: I got it out and played it. Quite surprised how well it played. No low c disease. Plays great. Reminds me of the firebird I’ve played a long time ago. Gold brass bell. Perfect lacquer. One tiny “flat spot” type dent on bell. Valves need oiling but are fine. Surprisingly quiet valves. They’ve come a long way with valves and linkages. I really liked it but just don’t need it. Does have the Wessex cimbasso stand as well. I even liked the Wessex cimbasso mouthpiece it came with. Looks just like the one on Wessex site.

That sounds quite fair to me. I just let one go for nearly a third less money than that. However, I needed a quick sale so I could buy something else that was for sale at a very good price. My Wessex cimbasso was fun, but the high register dropped off quite a bit above middle C. I don't think mine was a particularly 'good example'.

This instrument is available in F and Eb. Probably a good idea to let interested people know what key your horn is in.
