~SOLD~
1969 Besson New Standard 3+1 compensating BBb tuba in lacquer in overall good playing condition with factory case. Standard American shank receiver. $1995 OBAO plus $249 ground shipping from Tucson, AZ to CONUS only.

Cosmetic condition is good, especially for the age of the horn - some small dings, scratches and signs of prior repairs. There is finish wear in the contact areas and some missing lacquer on the interior of the bell from some repaired damage.

The valves are fast, smooth and have good compression. The tuning slides all move very nicely.

New valve springs and felts.

Standard American shank receiver.

Tuba is 39.5" tall with a 17" bell. Heavy, built like a tank. Besson/Boosey craftsmanship in this era was unequaled.

Although solidly in the 4/4 range, these tubas can put out as much or more sound than most 5/4 horns. With the very thick metal and the heavy duty bracing, the sound does not break up easily. The 4-valve (3+1) compensating valve system provides excellent intonation and response.

Original heavy, plywood Besson case with no wheels or casters in functional condition is included but no mouthpiece. It's missing one of the latches, the top and bottom halves of the case do not align as well as they should, and the plywood top is becoming separated from the rest of the case, but it should be fine for shipping inside a large box full of packing peanuts. It probably needs a little TLC to used for anything more than storage.

If at all possible, email me at bobstubahaus@gmail.com instead of PM if you're interested.

Thanks for looking.
