Hey everyone, just wanted post here because I’m thinking about consolidating my tubas and know this is a trustworthy group. I Have a 1960s V. Barcone Eb sousaphone, a 1980s Conn 12J BBb, and 2013 St Petersburg 210 CC. I’d be willing to trade all three for one BBb/CC or sell some of them off. If there is interest, I will share photos as soon as I get time. I’m based out of Long Island, NY. Now I’m also struggling with the battle of going down to one horn, do I stick with Bb or C?! I haven’t played in orchestras in years and will be doing mainly community band and beer halls in the future. Might as well save my ring finger all those extra reps and go to Bb haha.

In my experience, I've learned that there's a pretty large difference in the sound and the feel of the two keys. Yes, some of it comes down to the contexts in which you're playing (4tet, orchestra, jazz, etc.), but it's more critical, IMHO, to go with the sound and feel that moves you, that attracts you, that sounds like you. It took me a LONG time to find that BBb was the one for me (after EEb, F and a few CCs).

Sounds like you could go either way but slightly prefer the Bb, which is the expected horn for your polka or concert band gigs to the extent anyone cares, which is probably not at all. Sometimes the best horn is the one in your hands when you need to play, even better if it's already paid for. Regarding the Eb Sousa, is it one of the really small ones?

Thank you for the input and feedback! Yes it is. One of those baby ones that I struggle to get into for TubaChristmas haha

You’re right. I just need to get out there and try a bunch of horns before I sell my current horn. Luckily there’s a few stores within driving distance that have decent stock.
