SOLD! Gronitz PCK CC For Sale SOLD!

Post by Austin Howle »

SOLD SOLD SOLD

After nearly 20 years of ownership, I've decided to sell my Gronitz PCK. It's a great instrument and I love playing it, but since it's different from what I have been playing in the orchestra, I don't end up playing it that often and actually recently purchased a 2nd MW Baer CC so that I can practice at home with an identical instrument as what I play on stage. This versatile 6/4 CC tuba offers an exceptionally quick response - particularly in the low register. I've always considered it an ideal audition instrument due to its very even sound throughout registers, low-effort response, solid intonation, and the sound it produces when played solo in a large room.

This is the horn I used to win the Montreal audition back in 2013, and it has been played in some top-level ensembles and fancy concert halls all over the globe. Dave Kutz just used this instrument on tour with us playing 2nd tuba on Alpine Symphony in Europe this past month. I was taking advantage of the concert halls we performed in as a shameless photo op for this tuba in case I decided to sell it after visiting the Geretsried Meinl factory. It's in great condition, all the slides move super well, and is very clean and recently polished. Dave sounded fantastic on this horn and provided an excellent lower octave in the tuttis during the Strauss.

I originally bought this horn from Joe Sellmansberger sometime around 2006. Joe had been using it as his personal audition horn at the time, and he made some nice mods to it that in my opinion make it a bit more user friendly. He installed spit valves on the 3rd and 4th slides, making it incredibly easy to empty water. Since the water always accumulates right at these points, there's no need to remove the slides for draining. He also put a saxophone key on the 5th valve lever which is super comfortable to use, as it rolls back and forward on the surface of your thumb. I have always wanted to have this put on my other tubas. Interestingly, for several years, if you visited the Gronitz website, their photos of the PCK were of this exact instrument. The site also clarified that these modifications were not factory-standard, for those who remember seeing this during that time.

The horn is currently located in Montreal, but I’ll be flying to Dallas around Christmas. If anyone in the area is interested, I can bring it with me. Also I don't mind driving into the US or elsewhere in Canada from where I live to meet someone halfway etc. It will come with a gig bag. Asking $13,500 USD. Feel free to reach out with any questions / inquiries.
