FS/FT Eastman 836

Post by TheDancingSousa »

Hey everybody,

I'm entertaining the idea of trading or selling my Eastman 836.

I love my horn, especially following the modifications it received from Matt Walters. This was one of the first batch of this horn in the states, bought from that set of 4 at the 2018 army workshop by Tom McGrady. It plays wonderfully in tune and has great flexibility, with very even tone across the range of the instrument. I can provide recordings to interested parties.

Honestly, I just don't use it as much as I used to. I'm a school teacher, and my large F tuba fits the ensembles I play in regularly better than this horn, like quintet. I keep trying to find excuses to play it more, but they don't come up very often. It has some wear to the silver from the years of use, and a few dings and scratches from along the way. The worst spot is the top third valve slide, dented from a botched removal at one point a couple years back. It hasn't affected the playability, as far as I can tell, so I've not looked into fixing it.

It would come with a messina covers gigbag, one I had made custom in blue. It has my name on it, but I'm confident that the embroidery could probably be ripped out.

I'm asking for $9,000, but I am willing to entertain offers. I would also be interested in trades for 5/4 size instruments, like a Thor or 2155, assuming we could meet up somewhere to play test. I'm located up in New England, but willing to drive to meet the right person.
