If I remember correctly, and I usually do, we had a discussion a while ago on this board about fibreglass tuben, and there is a company (I believe they're in Germany, and they usually are), that builds tubas (tuben) out of fibreglass.
They even will decorate these fibreglassen tuben with American flags and other such patriotic (that's assuming you're in the U.S., and you usually are) designs.
They weren't Martin, though....does that matter?

You're talking about Glasel (sp?).

It seems that Glassl may have gone out of business. I don't know that for sure, but their web site no longer works.
Dillon's had a fiberglass upright Reynolds a few years ago when I had a chance to visit their store. I wish I had bought it, if only for the fact that it's so unusual.

I agree with bloke. If I have to stand up to play, and I can't have my Conn/Cavalier, then next in preference over a pre-1969 Conn or pre-UMI King (or even Reynolds Contempora, for that matter, assuming Martins aren't available) would be a pre-UMI fiberglass king. If I had to hoist the thing on my shoulder like some overachieving laws rocket/bazooka/blunderbuss, I probably wouldn't play.

Hi Harv and all the other Tubenetters,
I think Martin was part of Wurlitzer? At least in 1967,
Anyway, I found this ad in my tuba pictures collection,
**click on it to view the full size picture**
I guess they felt pretty good about their product!
