I'm looking for a 3/4 size tuba in either BBb or CC. I would prefer 4 valves, but will consider 3 valves. I am not going to go out and set the world on fire playing the tuba, but I will play it in a couple of summer bands and in my church for certain occasions. So even if you don't have a horn to offer, I'm still open to your suggestions. I've looked at some web pics of Jupiter, MM, and Maestro. Some of these would appear to be decent horns, but I have not played on any of them.

Based on my personal experience, try out:

1. Weril J680 (BBb) or J681 (CC). Both 4 valve compact tubas. These are sold by Joe "Bloke" Sellmansberger, Baltimore Brass (www.baltimorebrass.net), Steve Ferguson (www.hornguys.com), and Lee Stofer (www.tubameister.com).

2. Josef Lidl LBB-701, 4 rotary valves. Problem is that these are hard to find now. There was one "for sale" recently below but I think it's been sold. Great horn. I have one (Not for sale).

3. Jupiter 482 ( I think). Don't know much about this one but some people say it's decent.

There have been several threads about 3/4 size tubas on the current and "old" TubeNet. Check the archived posts for them.

I agree with the previous poster regarding new tubas. However, I feel that there is much more value in buying a good used horn. My pick would be a good Cervany Piggy. It feels like a 3/4 horn and puts out nearly the sound of a 4/4 horn. If you have a budget in mind, you would help yourself by letting everyone know about it. Good Luck.

How about this; these horns have a great reputation for "7/8" sized tubas.
It shouldn't cost much to have the bell rolled out.

My Tuba teacher at UCF,(Gail Robertson) has a 4-valve 4/4 Cerveny "piggy" BBb that i believe she is selling cause she recently bought a Miraphone 1291 5-valve BBb. send me a message of interest and I'll ask her.

I'm the guy who recently sold my Lidl. Prior to purchasing it from Lee Stofer, I tried both the Weril and the Jupiter 482. I didn't like the Weril at all (intonation problems). The Jupiter was a far better horn. However, the Lidl had a better overall tone quality, and a fuller low range. Check out the Miafone 184 on ebay. I've had one for about a year and absolutely love it. It is the perfect quintet horn for someone who doesn't want to learn a new set of fingerings.

I have purchased a tuba today! A Cerveny CCB 603-4MRX "Piggy", CC, 4 rotary valves, and a gig bag.
