This is a rare gold brass Alex CC model 163 5 valve. The horn is in great condition with only a few very minor dents. The horn has the original S linkage but has been well maintained and is very smooth and fast, I have never thought twice about converting it. The horn was built in the 60's and has the classic great Alex sound. The low register is second to none, so if your looking for the perfect horn for ride or fountains, this is it. The horn comes with a hard case that is in great condition. I have reconsidered the price on this horn and have decided to ask $4850.00 including shipping.

As far as the intonation goes here it is. I play all notes with traditional fingerings. Depending on the situation I may use 1 & 3 for G below the staff and 1&3 for D in the staff. I mainly use the alternate fingerings on only these two notes when playing soft. As far as orchestral excerpts go I have found that I can play the above mentioned open for the G and 1st valve for the D with no intonation problems. The 5th valve is a flat whole step. Intonation above and below the staff is about as good as it gets with any tuba, no problems on this horn.

Work I have done to the horn is as follows. I added the 5th valve this past January, parts from Lee Stofer which he bought from the Alexander factory. Added silver half dollars to the levers to make them even more responsive and to add a couple of bucks in value to the horn. When I bought the horn the 1st valve tuning slide was cut down and way too short. I ordered new tuning slides from Alexander but I had them made a little shorter than then factory length. I never had to do any dent work to the horn due to the fact that it was all ready in great condition.
