Greetings all,

A good friend and former student, Tim Owens, is selling his Mel Culbertson CC tuba. I have played this horn on many occasions and it is quite wonderful. Below is the description that he sent me, and I have put together a Yahoo picture page: http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/tim_olt/a ... FBw7pGWwWp

Please contact Tim Owens at the contacts below if you have any questions.

Greetings,

It was brought to my attention that the price Mr. Owens is asking for his tuba is more than the new purchase price at some of the well-known stores. It should be noted that his horn comes with the hard case, and that he has had quite a bit of customized work done on the instrument. That being said, if you add tax to the price (as you would with any retailer) the price at the stores will come out appreciably above what he is asking.

If anyone has any further questions please feel free to contact either Mr. Owens or me.

Happy shopping!

Tim

Greetings all,

After the discussions of store prices and such, Mr. Owens asked me to edit the description, and he has changed the price slightly. Check out the new listing, and drop him a line if you are interested.

Many thanks!

Tim

Let me just put in a good word (and a bump) for Tim Owens. Tim is truely a stand-up guy and good tuba player/repair guy. If he says it's in great condition, you can bet that it's absolutely excellent. Also, he's only selling this horn to buy his (late) long time mentor's personal horn. He sounded wonderful on that Neptune. . . and when he wanted to crank it up, he could tear down walls with it. . . seriously, I think he's been used in place of a wrecking crew :)

Everytime I see one of these up for sale I am tempted to sell or trade my horn to get one of these. I'm 5'8" and I probably have no business playing one of these, but I would love to own a large rotary horn.

Howdy, TubaTodd,
I'd just like to put out there that I'm only an inch taller than you and had no troubles holding or playing Tim's horn. I think the leadpipe actually sits lower on the Neptune than on my personal horn. If the sound you want is a large rotary tuba, then play a large rotary tuba. . . you can always get a tuba stand if you need it (I use one). I've always had issues with people saying you have to be big to play the tuba. . . Check out recordings of Ellis Wean up in Canada, he's smaller than you playing the heck out of a 6/4. . .

just some thoughts,
T. J.
