1925 Giant Conn E-flat 3-Valve - NOW UP FOR AUCTION

After removing all "foreign objects" from my Giant Conn, I'm again interested in selling this horn. I love the sound - have recently used it in brass quintet recitals - but I'm looking for something more contemporary. See this link for the story:

This is a beautiful looking and wonderful sounding horn.
See pics here:

1925 Giant Conn E-flat. 20-inch bell. .690 bore. Serial number 202363 (see pic).
This horn is in very good condition, as you can see in the photos. Standard dings that you would expect on a horn of this vintage. Standard intonation issues that also go along with horns of this era. I've photographed it with my PT-606 (not for sale) to show the huge size of this horn. Horn comes with the original case. Case is old and musty, but opens and closes (like a good case should) and all of the latches/hinges work.
Now up for auction - you know where.
The horn is located in north-central Pennsylvania.

Thanks for your interest.

Redirecting the tuning slide might be a great idea. I bought this horn as an inexpensive tool to teach my students E-flat tuba (less expensive than current E-flat models). Not sure if I'm interested in a "project" horn right now. Would rather use the $$$ towards a more contemporary instrument.
However, I'm sure this would be a great project for someone - particularly for someone interested in that vintage, monster tuba sound.

Just a thought here.
If you didn't sell it, you could have that main slide flipped to point up. That would take care of any tuning problems including valve combinations.
I did exactly that to the Conn-Cav souzy I play. Why Conn, having made this exact same valve block for over 125 years, doesn't do this as stock I'll never know!

geez...I just sold a 4 valve version of this for considerably more, and the buyer got a GREAT deal!
I had very few pitch problems, none that couldn't be handled with a little lip work.
What I had problems with was Eb fingerings!

Mike Finn graciously let me leave this horn at his display all day Saturday (thanks Mike!). I saw a few people stop by to try it out.
Any comments on this horn from those who got to play on it? (ie - help me sell this horn!).

Great looking horn... Wish I knew how to play an Eb horn... Just doesn't seem right that it should go for that price. $1200 seems like a great deal!

I use a PT-64 with this horn. With the excepetion of some 5th-partial alternate fingerings, this horn plays pretty well in tune throughout. A little more work than a more modern instrument - but where else can you get that "Giant," woofie EEb sound?
I think some guys use "woofie" as a negative comment. I use it to describe a horn (or an ensemble) with a broad sound, rather than a tight, focused tone. Not a negative term - just descriptive.

Why is noone buying this horn?? At $900 starting that was a -steal- and still no bids. This would make a great brass ensemble / outdoor christmas gig horn. Not to mention what the bell and bottom bow alone are probably worth. Then, save up your money and drop in a 4+1 valveset and have the ultimate quintet / small-med ensemble horn. Or use the bell and outer bows and build a G50-ish CC tuba. C'mon people!!
Marty "who would have bought it, except he has no cash at all, almost no credit, a third baby coming in 3 weeks, and absolutely no room in the apartment"...
The bass trombone and F tuba stand in front of the nightstand by my side of the bed, the big CC stands in the corner in front of my half of the dresser, and the small bore tenor trombone stands near the front door. The trombone silent brass is on my nightstand, the tuba silent brass and F tuba straight mute are on the top of my son's closet, the trombone straight mute and the bass guitar are back in the bottom of his closet. Most of my music is in bins under the bed or in my son's closet, and the mouthpieces are on whatever counterspace I can scrounge that the cat can't get to. I have really been itching for a full sized keyboard again, but there is absolutely no place to put it!

A fourth valve would make it worth considerably more. There just isn't much of a market for 3 valve Eb tubas these days, even if they can be useful and fun horns.
