Hey, I'm a poor college junior who has finally decided to buckle down and take out a loan to buy a tuba. I've tried several tubas and have narrowed it down to: Mirafone 1291, MW 2155, Besson (forgot the number), B&S PT-6 (or slightly smaller) or any CC that's similar to those tubas. I'm currently first chair and a music education/performance major. I play on a Mirafone CC from the late 70's early 80's (similar to the 186). I will not spend more the $7,500 due to the fact that I make very little money and I also have to pay for school.

Honestly, I'd suggest taking a few hundred $ from your tuba budget and take a weekend trip to Indiana (WWBW) or the east coast (BBC and/or Dillons). Especially if this is something you'll be using all-day, every-day, it's worth it up-front.

I'd say to try the Miraphone 1292, it's like the 1291, but it has a silver garland around the bell, and a slightly smaller leadpipe, so it's a more in-tune horn.
