Hello all,
I have a student who is in need of a good solid BBb horn. My preference would first be a MW 25 or Miraphone 186 and then a YBB-641. Other suggestions will of course by appreciated, however, he is a freshman in HS, and his band director (and I for that matter) want him to have a BBb. So please don't post with CC tubas for sale. He is looking to spend between 3k and 5k with the preference obviously being toward the lower end. Let me know what you've got.
Thanks.
Brian
P.S. Oh by the way, he wants this horn yesterday so post quickly. Thanks again.

I personally would say the MW 25 to be a but big and ensemble-only ish. for the price range i would suggest you think about maybe a cerveny, if you take care of it, it will do a high school player very well (it worked for me!) and they can be had for <4,000

I have 2 that might be of some interest. Both are Conns. 1) a 25J - 4 top-action valves with detachable upright bell. I just dropped it off with Dan Schultz to strip lacquer and de-dent it. Plays great, but VERY HEAVY instrument. 2) a 28J with 4 front action piston valves. Very old instrument (1920's?), good shape but could use some work and cleaning, surprisingly agile. Roughly comparable in dimensional size and playing "heft" to a King 2341. I bought it intending to restore it to something like original condition - it's a very rare piece.
I had reduced the 25J to $1300 on tubenet, but I've recently withdrawn it. After the work is finished I think it should command a higher price. Since the result is still uncertain, I don't know for sure what that price should be. I'm hoping for $2000.
I would be willing to sell the 28J as is for $2500, although I expect it would command a substantially higher price after restoration.
Please let me know if you want additional information, pictures, etc. Thanks and good hunting --- Dave Abbott
