Go to the local newspaper shops. They have large rolls left over from printing runs. They are plain white and would work well, although perhaps you would need multiple layers.

I have done that before to use the paper for packing material for large shipments such as shipping tubas and the like. The rolls are just about 3 feet wide if I remember correctly.

If they do cost anything it is only a couple of bucks for a roll my wife could barely carry.

Some Kinko's stock the wide rolls if the particular store has a blueprint copy machine.
