I know, they suck but when you have high school tuba/euph players switching to bone for jazz stuff they are a life-saver.

The query is this: does anyone out there know of, or have for sale, a cheap valve trombone that doesn't require major overhaul? I am looking for a few for my students and for another band director and our budgets do not allow for much in the way of instrument purchases.

I've purchased a couple of horns from this guy and find his descriptions accurate and pictures very clear. I've also spoken with him and seems to know what he's talking about.

How about a B-flat Amati with probably less than 1 hour play time on it? I got it from that Yankels Warehouse stuff -- one of those wild hair purchases. It has some scratches on the bell where the valve section tapped against it during shipping. And there are two knuckle dings from shipping, neither of which affect playing and are easily accessible to a repair person.

Inside diameter of third valve slide is about 0.470". Not exactly huge, so don't expect a big, warm sound out of it. Comes with a case which is in essentially new condition. Takes a standard small shank mouthpiece.

Not exactly sure on price, but I figure somewhere around $200. Depends a little on if I have a box in which to ship it, or if I will have to go buy one. For what it's worth, I paid about $260 for it.

I also have a Jinbao that is in C. Nice sound, really, quite nice. Build quality is compariable to older Amati -- decent, not spectacular. I paid WWBW about $270 for it -- another wild hair -- and would like to get close to that for it.

Splattertone, I will see what I can scare up on the order of getting the school on board with the idea and if anything comes of it I will let you know. Also, if I have enough left over from the next paycheck I will get back to you so I can have it for me.
