Looking for older style Conn 2 mouthpiece(s). This type mouthpiece looks funnel shaped on the outside. I am OK with a little damage to the rim or the outside but the end of the shank has to be in good shape.

PM with price if you are interested.

Wow! I wish I had a Conn 2 mouthpiece I could unload on you but I don't - sorry.

Good luck, hope you can find one.

We resent that remark.

Hey, you got a Conn 2 or not?

Tuba - Mouthpiece (s) 2 - Conn #2 - Yamaha # 65

(No vested interest, just pointing it out)

Thanks... and I might pick up a spiffy Yamaha 65 too!

I just looked at the photo more carefully, I believe that the Conn mouthpiece is a Conn 1. I have a couple of Conn 1's and the outside on the 1's is smooth, like the picture. On Conn 2's, I have always seen a shoulder at the top of the shank.

One of my 1's has no printing on it and none is revealed in the pictures. My Conn 1 is the victim of someone's unfinished lathe work, so this is interesting whether it's a 1 or a 2.

Thanks.

Alex,

The Conn 2's don't always have a shoulder. You know me and Conn 2's. I have one that does not have the shoulder. The really old ones did not!

So sell me a Conn 2. You've got enough, spread them around and maybe they will come back to you re-plated.

Good to see you at the Miraphone booth again at TMEA. Excellent display! Seeing Marcus Theinart at the booth was a real surprise. You guys bring out the big guns, don't you.

FWIW, The UMI 2 was very similar with added weight around the throat. I have always had a fondness for those mouthpieces, particularly when opened up a little. The Floyd Cooley Helleberg is a similar and slightly better (IMHO) alternative as well.

So maybe you have a old, junky Conn 2 lying around that you aren't using. You should get rid of it. I know a guy who'll buy it.

I've got a really, really, really crappy Conn 2. The shank is split at the end along the lines of five splits around the edges about 1/4 inch long. The thing is also beat to hell but that is to be expected for a former school mouthpiece. If you really want it (and it is bad, don't say I didn't warn you) pm me or e-mail me. I can send pictures if you want but that might take a day or 2 as I have to locate a digital camera and live in a town of 1500 people 100 miles from nowhere.

Thanks Captain Sousie, but I need the shank end of the mouthpiece to be in good shape.

Appreciate the willingness to help, though!

Keep digging folks, one is not enough. Hey, they're only good for deep sea fishing weights if you aren't using them.

I have a nice Conn #2 mouthpiece that is in very good shape except the end of the shank needs to be rheemed to bring it back to round. There is some tarnish on it, but there are no other problems with it and the body of the mp is in great shape, no dents, dings or scratches. The plating isn't perfect, but it's smooth. I'm not sure why just the very tip of the shank is out of round, but any brass repairman could get it perfectly round in about 15 seconds. Interested? PM me.
