Thanks for the plug Bob. Of course, this is not the Trombone Forum but my experience may possibly of value to some of the actual or potential doublers on this board.

As a euph/tuba player of sorts, I wanted to try the trombone since I'm very interested in classical music and you don't see many euphs in orchestras. Since I already had some euph/tuba experience, I figured that playing bass 'bone would be relatively easy. NOT SO, at least not for me. I found I needed a lot more air to "power" that Getzen than I had available to me. So, I sold the Getzen to Bob. I next picked up the Courtois Bach copy, falling for the common "wisdom" that you need a bazooka to play orchestral. Maybe if you are Joe Alessi or Ralph Sauer, but not me (and Sauer, now retired from the LA Phil, supposedly used a Conn 88H-something with a .525 slide).

In any event, I'm now much happier playing a Getzen dual bore (.500/.508) 'bone (3508Y). I also have a medium bore which I'm working up towards using. The Courtois is just not being used.

The moral (if any):

1. Bigger is not always better.
2. Playing the tuba or euphonium is not the same as playing the trombone.

My experience only. YMMV.
