Carnival of Venice for Eb and F tuba and band

Post by Alex C »

I have just finished a wind-band accompianment for Carnival of Venice for F and Eb tuba. The F tuba version is in Bb and the Eb tuba version is in Ab (so you can use the correct fingerings on the wrong tuba).

This was a commission project for the Dallas Wind Symphony with Charles Villarubia as soloist, to be performed on the September 18th concert: http://www.dws.org/content/view/16/141/ . After that date the score and parts (including tuba part) will be available for sale.

A brass band version for Eb tuba, in the key of Ab will be available shortly.

This arrangement is not a re-hashed Eric Leidzen version though his is an admirable model to copy. The higher keys demanded new scoring and voicing to accomodate the solo part. Additionally, scoring for tuba solo vs. band is always a challenge but, as a tuba player, I believe I had special insight.

I have a publisher who has asked to publish but I don't know the time-frame so contact me if you are interested.

Play on!

Charlie Villarubia on Carnival

Post by MikeMilnarik »

I have heard Charlie perform Carnival of Venice with Rhythm and Brass. I've heard many GREAT players and renditions of Carnival, but I have to say that Charlie's performance of this piece will blow you away. He is extremely musical and his command of the piece is second to none. If you're in the area you should make time for this performance. Charlie is a phenomenal tuba player and very underrated. You won't be disappointed.

Starfighter! The performance is in Dallas at the Meyerson Symphony Center on September 18 at 8:00 but the rest of the Justice League is arriving from Rylos at 7:30 in time to catch the traditional fanfare in the foyer.

PM me if you are going.
