Tommy Johnson's Meinl Weston 2145 CC

Post by Ferguson »

SOLD

The late LA tubist extraordinaire Tommy Johnson had this Meinl Weston 2145 CC tuba custom made for him. It's a large 4/4 size, 4 piston, 1 rotor, and the 5th rotor is tuned to 2 whole steps. The 5th slide is on the back, and is easily adjustable and includes a slide stop. The 5th slide may need to be loosened. All valves are right hand. The horn is entirely silver plated, and is in mint condition, except for some very small marks on the bell flare where an errant sound man though it was OK to drag the mic cables across the front of the tuba. Nice.

Includes a mint condition black cordura Glenn Cronkhite gig bag.

This is a beautiful playing horn, with excellent pitch and very malleable tone; it can sound big and dark like a BBb or you can make it bark like a Miraphone 188. The low range is really open, and the low F and E pop out especially well.

$6100

Find it at Ferguson Music, La Crescenta, CA, in the Los Angeles area. sales@hornguys.com
