Re: Holton 345 BBb NOW WITH HORN PORN!I have asked the Leblanc(Holton) rep on numerous occasions that very same question and the say they don't know where the tooling ended up. They have been hearing that same question for years fom many of us. As a School Music Rep I would have been selling them if i could but the large manufactuares don't put a lot of effort into the tuba Market because they are so expensive. As professional Tuba players we tend to look towards the companies thast specialize. Companies such as Conn/Selmer and Yamaha have a couple of nice horns but the profit is in the beginner market for them.
Re: Holton 345 BBb NOW WITH HORN PORN!
There is a rep from a certain company that has told people that he has the tools for these horns. He keeps telling people this and then swears them to secrecy. Problem is, he has told so many people and made so many promises of inclusion in the resurrection! He has asked people with zero design nor repair experience and, that in reality, have no concept of what makes a tuba play the way it does to be technical advisors. For a while he had each of them thinking that they were "the guy" by stroking their egos. Pffft! If anyone wants one of these, this clearly the one to buy. I wouldn't hold my breath for the super-secret-spy-six-quarter...
Re: Holton 345 BBb NOW WITH HORN PORN!I remember when Vito was still alive and people would ask why he hadn't sold "the tooling". Basically, he would tell them it was his, and he didn't want to sell it.
"The tooling" doesn't not a tuba make - anymore than "a paintbrush" and "some scaffolding" will make a Sistine Chapel ceiling.

Re: Holton 345 BBb NOW WITH HORN PORN!Somebody buy this horn! It is really amazing! I absolutely love playing on it. I would've bought it already, but I'm looking for a new C tuba, then an E flat or F tuba. But this is a great edition to anyone's collection. It plays like a marvel and puts out an enormous sound that is incredibly beautiful. I am in love with this horn!

Re: Holton 345 BBb NOW WITH HORN PORN!It is surprising this has not sold with so many glowing recommendations. Can only be because it looks like someone has taken pot shots at it. We are all inclined to judge a book by its cover!

Re: Holton 345 BBb NOW WITH HORN PORN!
I don't think that's necessarily so. To tell you the truth, I prefer battle scars over 'new 'n' shiny'...they give horns character and a sense of history. The only reason I personally haven't purchased this tuba is because I'm about $4,000.00 short of the asking price! '60s TR-180 Holton

Re: Holton 345 BBb NOW WITH HORN PORN!
To my eye, this is a beautiful instrument!
Re: Holton 345 BBb NOW WITH HORN PORN!
Maybe because 99% of the world's tuba playing population is located too far away to go and try that horn... Wim
