This is a good deal on a great looking (and likely sounding) horn.

I would love to own one of these (see my signature)! Too bad I don't have the scratch.

From just playing on my 3-valve King 1240, I can tell I like the compact sound and I really like the "direct injection" lead pipes, they really seem to help my slurring and response. While I've never played a Gnagey CC, everything I've read about them seems to point that this is the kind of CC for me (I like pistons, the "direct injection" lead pipe, medium bore).

Anyway, bump for a great looking (and as stated above, probably great sounding,) horn.

*Edit for a question I forgot to ask: Is the York bell from vintage Eb?

The York, from what I understand is a late 1910 bell, Est, at 1917-18. I do not if it is from a standar Eb or a Monster Eb, the bell is 19 inches dia.
It is bright silver plate and does have 2.5 spots where Sam left some solder tinnig to protect from over polishing the silver to raw brass.
The bell appears to have been from a Top Action horn, which would also leave me to believe it was from an Eb. Maybe Sam can chime in
on this particular instrument. He is aware of the trade.

A 19" bell would be from the "Monster" model.

The "Small" and "Medium" models had 15" bells.

I've owned one of Sam's horns for years. I recommend this to anyone looking for a solid horn at a great price.

Sean,

Thanks for the spelling edit on "standard", and the clarification for the bell size.

Having played a 6/4 for a few years now, This 4/4 is an absolute blast. Solidly built, yet very nimble in size and play. (don't let the size fool you, It still has lot's a beef attached) It is a great modification by Sam. It is, and does what everyone has said about his horn mods.

As former owner of this Tuba I can confirm all the positive comments mentioned here.

Sam's King/Yorks have great intonation, that super York-sound and are tremendously easy to play.
This one has Yamaha valve buttons, the newer King valve tops to allow clearance. It also has a set of Bloke-washers.
The spread of the valves is very modest compared with those MW Big-Valves and the Yamaha buttons give a great feel.

The 1st valve slide works a treat but I only ever used it for some of the lowest multi-valve notes. The other valve slides are quite short so would require some modification if you like to pull 3, 4 or 5. I never did.

I always added a rubber band to the 5th valve mechanism to add speed but it works fine without.

I only traded the Gnagey as I went back to using the trusty Besson Eb and I wanted a big tuba to go with that.

The leather Cronkhite bag is a cracker. I chose to have it made in Red & Green - you'll never lose it in a crowd or at tuba-Xmas...

Dave is also a good guy to deal with!

Would you consider selling only the gig bag? I am looking for a gig bag for my Gnagey.
