I purchased the horn from Mack Brass in late 2011 to learn F. It is similar to a miraphone firebird. Like new condition only used a few times. No dents, small blemish in the silver plating from the factory. Challenging intonation, alternate fingering for F in the staff is 23, Good sound and Response in low and high registers. I will also include the original hardcase.

Where are you located, and if it's possible I'd like to try the horn out.

I'm located near Houston, Texas.

The intonation is workable if you use alternate fingerings. It has a wonderful sound and response which makes the work for intonation worth it.

Where at in Houston? I'm curious to play one of these horns to see how they play.

No tuba has perfect intonation. There is no such thing as perfect intonation anyway, depending on the key, mode, etc. If an orchestra played with "synthesizer" tuning nobody would want to listen to it. Even a piano is stretch tuned.
Every F tuba I have played has required a couple alternates and/or slide pulls.
So, this one has a few more than usual. Maybe that is why it is not selling for 6 grand. Plenty of people don't seem to mind the extra work to play an Alex or many 6/4's.
Let the man sell his horn. Why he is selling is his business. Maybe he wants a bigger/smaller horn. Maybe he lost his job or his car needs work. Maybe he wants to pay down debt or buy a ring for a special someone. The market will decide the price.
