FS: Ron Bishop/Bloke's Mirafone 184 CC - SOLD!

For Sale: Ronald Bishop's 184 CC with Bloke-added 5th valve. Just cleaned and serviced!

This is a special 184 in every way... a special tuba. Bloke added the 5th valve (I was told) some time ago, and unlike most of the 5-valve 184s, this plays like the 4 valvers in resonance, power and tone, somehow compromised on stock 5 valve 184s (the old 2-step valves).

This plays very well, and better than most small CC tubas. Comes with an old-school gig-bag.

Price is $3,500 plus shipping (Cleveland, OH). It's a great player and with unique provenance. I've heard this thing in concert several times... it's capable of so much!

Shocked this hasn't moved! It's a great horn with a history.

Jc, I'm forgetting my history - was this Mr. Bishop's horn while I was out there? I remember the Miraha mostly, but he used this, too, right? (For non-Oberlin folks, I'm talking about the early 1990s when Jc and I were both Mr. Bishop's students)

Correct, as I understand it. The Yamahphone/Miraha had a little more poop, I think, for solos (John WIlliams, etc.), but this was his main pint-size :)

entire assembly - a typical "long whole step" fifth valve

ONLY the short slide (with the curlycue part removed) - a "long half step" fifth valve...so that low F can be played just about in-tune with 5-2-4, (long half-step + half step + perfect 4th), and the 5th valve can ALSO be used for an in-tune C# as well as an in-tune low F# (5-4, rather than 2-4).
Correct :)

They don't, it will be even better.

For one, in just s few short decades or less, they won't have to worry about making 100k+ a year mining coal!!

all that opportunity, and the kid can't put down his iPhone (or is that Nintendo?)
He's posting on the forum from his phone to see what ensembles the tuba would work well in, or if he should go ahead and sell it to Ron Bishop.

Not sure why Mirafone stopped making the 184 - I love mine.

I would like to see a new one myself.
