Martin Handcraft 6/4 BBb Tuba for sale. Incredible tuba, made approx early 1930's. Once owned by Arnold Jacobs, but now looks 100x better than old BBC pic. Chem clean and valve alignment by Albert at BBC one year ago, also new spitvalve. Most lacquer gone, polishes to a bright shine with brasso or similar. Plating on pistons worn but plays fine with Hetman Classic piston oil. Valves are lightning fast. Martin and Conn bits modified by myself that play well on the horn. Includes new Bundy sousaphone bits that can be retrofitted. 1st and 2nd pistons vented. Many small dents typical with age, only dent of concern is in second top bow. Intonation excellent except for bottom line G which may be lipped down or pull slide (am guessing will be fixed when dent pulled) Between easily accessable 1st and 2nd valve slide and bendability of notes, the 3 upright pistons are all that is needed. False tones EXCELLENT - plays like it has 5 valves down there. On consignment with Lee Stofer Music in Atlanta, GA - email
tubameister1@juno.com to try and buy the horn. Why am I selling? Because I am "in a tight spot" and need the $$$ more than the horn now, unfortunately. In addition to being the ultimate indoor or outdoor band tuba, I played the Jim Curnow trumpet virtuoso "Concertpiece" on it last year with the Lee Symphonic Band spring tour (after Phil Smith played it at our CIDA concert), and played the largo and presto from a Marcello cello sonata on my senoir recital. If pics below don't show up (try right clicking and "show picture" first,) then PM me (not Lee) and I will email them.
