house clearing horn sale!!

Wife decided we need to move off post... Now I have to clear out a few horns to make the move a little easier, and pay off a few bills before the big move!

Some are very small target audience, and I'll have a few fresh from the repair bench to add as the closing date gets, well, closer... I hope, at least... Here are a few so far:

Conn 20K Sousa. Silver. Rebuilt with new neck and mouthpipe, some parts cannibalized from a donor Conn... It's been my gig axe all summer... Hoping to build another one from the slag pile once I'm in the new place... Plays way better than I'd hoped it would, or it would have been sold a few months ago! $1650.00

King 4 valve Eb Full Circle Sousa. Lacquer. Older, mid 30's era... has that awesome King engraving on the bell from that era, but the lacquer fade doesn't let it pop out like it used to... Best playing Eb sousa I've owned... Was my main dixie and marching horn up until that 20K came along... 2nd and 3rd branches were crunched when I bought it, but its in better shape than most gig-worn sousas now... $1300.00

Conn 36J. Satin silver body. Recording bell in satin silver and also has a Kanstul raw brass upright bell... This is the one Ed Firth mentioned in a similar thread about the upright bell... great playing horn, but I need a happy wife with her new house more than I need a BAT sitting in the basement while I'm at work trying to pay off the new house... Newer valve job before I traded for it, and 1st tuning slide flipped for tuning purposes... priced hi hoping it doesn't sell at $3200.00 ;p

I have a bunch of other tuba "geek" stuff I can happily part with... Torchinsky Rep set from vol 5 thru 13 plus 20th century(I had 1-4 but must be in a different box for the past 20 years.. I'll look if anyone is interested) Dozens of etude books I won't use much, plenty of music/solos.. message me for that stuff and I'll list out or look for something if you are looking specific... dozens of mouthpieces that I've gone through before going back to the same pieces I played back in the '90's... Won't list 'em all, but some I can remember: Monette 97, Monette 94 Prana, Bruno Tilz 8F, Dillon S5... Most others are just PT 72's, 49's, Schilke 67... etc... Nothing you haven't seen but if you are looking for any standard ones let me know... make an offer on any of the named ones above and I'll consider for sure...

I'll update from time to time, and should be adding at least one more BBb sousa and one or two more tubas... Thanks for looking, and as with almost every ad here, all horn prices are OBO, which are never higher than list price...

I tried to add pics, but the files are too big... will try to shrink 'em down tomorrow, but email and I'll send 'em if I haven't gotten to post yet..
Would love local pick ups, or drive to meet, but can ship for purchase... would rather not ship just for trials... I'll run out of big boxes soon, so act now!!

I shrunk them down and still can't manage to post yet. Please continue to email if you'd like to see pics of the horns for now.
Thanks to everyone else for their questions! If I haven't replied yet, I will try to get back by tonight... Things moving forward with the home purchase and got tied up all night last night...

Update: Monette 94 is now sold.

I owned the 36J right before Shane. The bit made no difference in anything so, combined with the fact that it's a pretty good stretch to the valves, even without one led me to play it sans bit. There's another one here, overhauled by Dan Oberlah, that is a beauty contest winner but Shane's horn plays and sounds quite a bit better. he first slide has been flipped and the valves were done only about a year ago so they are just breaking in. I have a picture of Fred Pfaff playing one and he didn't use the bit either. A poster on here named Ken Sloan has one and it would be interesting to get his take on the bit thing. Anyway, this one is in super shape except for finish and it plays really well so someone will end up with a terrific big horn. Good luck to all, Ed

For what it's worth I found the sound to be nicely focused and it was easy to get around on. I also got Kanstul to make raincatchers for my Martin Mammoth and King Monster rotary with excellent results. But I didn't opt for the majic "York Brass" on any of them.My high school had a 25J with the 24in. bell and I played first my own, then the Army's 24J from 10th grade through my second year in the Army before switching to the West Point Band's .750 bore Kings. While the bigger bells sound very good the 20 in. bell cleaned it up a lot. And they did make 20 in. bells for them back in the day. I bought one at a store in Miami called Stone Age Antiques while down for a Ray Charles job and it fit the 34J I was using at Disney at the time and worked very well. So there's a bunch of information you didn't really need but to summarize, those Kanstul bells, in my opinion, match up metal wise on these big old American horns than, say, a Cerveny bell which is lighter brass.OK I'm done now. Ed

bump for contracts on the house... real estate is a slow moving ship here in NY, but hoping to sell one more of these by closing if I can... May have an old King BBb sousa up for grabs soon, as well, if anyone else is looking for a sousa.

Closing date got BUMPED back a few weeks... Here's your chance to get the horns before I move and decide I like 'em enough to keep once closing costs aren't an issue again.. :)
