WTB A CC Tuba For College

Hey, currently a college freshman looking to have his own horn because of being a Music Education Major and I don't like sharing horns.

I'm looking into a CC tuba with preferably 5 valves (will settle for 4), rotary if all possible. 4/4 or 5/4. In pretty decent condition with minor damages or damages that can be fixed easily. Price range between $2,500-$6,000.

I would like it to be around the Mississippi/Alabama area or be able to be shipped. Additives (mouthpieces and such) are not necessary.

A MackBrass or Wessex Miraclone would work great for you and keep your budget low. They are great horns.

If you can get your hands on a Wisemann, which is a piston horn, that would be ano thee great option. I have been playing my PT6P side by side with two different Wisemanns lately and they are very close in sound and feel (I plan to have a review up here in the next few weeks of the side by side).

If you are majoring in Ed because you don't want to deal with auditioning and playing professionally on an orchestra, then get the Miraclone and you'll be more than happy. If you are looking to possibly audition and play professionally and only have the Ed degree so you have a better chance of getting a job, then go with the Wisemann--I cannot stress how nice that horn is, compared to the original, at the price point it is at.

If you are in college, ask your tuba teacher for recommendations....

I will also vote Eastman, message me if you have any questions about them and I'll try to help. This horn does well with everything from solo to quartet to a 40 person Orchestra. (Playing Finlandia in our concert tomorrow)

Make your life simple and save lots of money-----------get the 410 miraclone that is sold under various names; i.e., Mack Brass; Schiller; Wessex and costs new between $1900 to $2400. It is a very good horn at any price, and should carry you through your undergrad college years. There are many posts on this board praising the 410. Don't listen to detractors who don't accept that is an adequate horn, either because they think it's a Chinese POS or feel no tuba is really good unless it is European and costs over $10,000.

Ace who does not work for Jin Bao
