CC Tuba for Sale

I never liked Yamaha CC tubas either. Found them heavy and stuffy with no sound character. Then I tried the old YCB 661, changed my mind and played the past 7 years of my career on it. Yamaha has this thing where if they make something that works, they discontinue it.

I played a Yamaha YCB-822 at UCF. I did switch back to a Mirafone, however.
Anywho, best bet is to take a trip to NJ or MD and visit Dillon's or Baltimore Brass. A ticket from O-Town usually isn't too much $$$ and you can find yourself a decent tuba and have it shipped back down to you (to help save on sales tax).
Lee Stofer is up in Atlanta and might have some good horns also. He carries Rudy Meinls which are top notch. A 3/4 Rudy CC would meet more than enough of your needs while at UCF. A Rudy 3/4 is really 4/4 size and will give you the ability to have a good horn for solo/small ensemble work. You will not need a big horn while at UCF. The largest horn I used while there was a Mirafone 188CC. Two guys who were playing in ensembles while I was there who both now play in orchestras played a Rudy 3/4 and a Meinl Weston 2145 for the ensembles. I did, and so did one other, borrow a Rudy 5/4 for an occasion or two. I played and F tuba while in school in my junior and two senior years (ha,ha) for all of the small stuff. The F, a YFB-621 (mucho small) was still enough to get the hand in orchestra rehearsals.
Switching from BBb to CC, you may be overly sensitive to certain aspects in horns. I would go somewhere where you can play a lot of examples.

As listed below, I am selling my Kanstul CC. It is a large 3/4 or small 4/4. I am really pleased with the horn. I have no difficulties supporting a 40 wind ensemble with it by myself. It is an amazing brass quintet/tuba-euph quartet horn. I am askin $3750, but will consider most offers . I am very sad to sell this horn, but my current situation and an upcoming deployment force me.
