For sale: Yamaha YEB 381 and Yamaha hard case. This is a factory 381, not a 321 with a 5th valve added.
5th valve: flat 1/2 step
Location: Bloomington/Normal IL
Asking $2900 obo
Prefer not to ship, but I can (at the buyers expense) if needed. I am willing to drive a few hours to meet any potential (serious) buyers


So, why am I selling?
I had no intention of selling it, but I planned to modify a few things on the horn. I found a different 381 with the exact modifications I was planning, and it makes much more sense for me to go that route instead of modifying this one.

There are quite a few dents and a few spots where the silver plating has worn off, but mechanically it is fine. The are brand new 4th and main tuning slides.

I wanted to make the 5th valve a flat whole step, and make it so it would be operated with right thumb. I love the way these horns sound, but I am so used to playing with 5 valves in the right hand that I had a hard time adjusting.

How is it operated now? I'll admit I've never seen an upright-valved tuba with five valves. Very interesting...

The 5th valve is left-thumb operated. It's located sort of under the valve section and you can access it between the 1st and 3rd valve slides. Here's a picture of the lever: http://i.imgur.com/unZlkMx.jpg" target="_blank" target="_blank

Thanks! The horn is super easy to play. I've watched many fantastic tubas come and go on this forum, so I can certainly understand not having the money to lay down.

I will be at ITEC for the entire conference. I did not plan to bring this instrument with, but if anyone is seriously interested I could squeeze it into the car.

Back from ITEC with a fair amount of free time. I am willing to drive a while to meet with serious buyers. Meeting in Normal is also an option.
