Customized high end German BBb off the market

This high end tuba has been modified so the leadpipe is off the horn. It actually comes completely off the tuba, which makes all those measures of rest counting nearly foolproof. You just think no sound, and no sound comes out. *when removable leadpipe feature is engaged*. The leadpipe is also "vented" and the water key has been "removed"

Just like Thein, bits of metal have been added.

...it is a Mirafone standard that wasn't fit to be a wall hanger.

So very, very ugly. Nearly all braces broken, the bottom bow pancaked completely flat in one spot (I am not kidding),

bell pancaked. Then bent backward, then sideways and possibly attacked by Huns. The trim sliced up, cracked up bell full of holes...not fit for a parts horn because of so few good parts.

However.... I did some fast, extremely crude work on it & got it back into the shape of a tuba.

The valves work fine & the 1-3 slides are OK ish. Could be better but nickel silver stuff. I thought more than once about taking the valves & scrapping the rest.

it doesn't sound completely unlike a tuba. If I hold the leadpipe & plumber's tape the water key hole, I can make tuba-like sounds with it.

The main tuning slide needs dent/alignment slide work with better tools than I have, it needs to be fixed to the horn & it needs a water key. I have it just flopping around right now so it will move.

$300

Or $200 and a tuba tamer type stand

or used blokepiece or Stofer mouthpiece.

Or you can suggest something via PM. If you are interested in purchasing or a partial trade.

would be a really good low cost starting point for a "cheap-o-phone" small CC project, if anyone wanted to experiment with cutting a tuba to CC...or probably even DD, or something crazy like that.

Lots of minimally tapering tubing & it actually doesn't sound half bad.

Maybe 15%.

I have one of these in BBb and in dent-free condition. It plays very well. There is also a 4v model who would help playing the low notes but I have not played one. It has long, straight/tapered tubes and quite a bit of tubing between the mouthpiece and first valve so length could be taken out there.

It is a shame what is done to instruments of this calibre.

If nobody lets me know of any interest in this I may just use the valves for something different.

I would be happy to take a G&W caver Euro shank or other "big tuba" stainless mouthpiece in good shape and $100.

Less than 1 shop hour will have this tuba playing just fine. Don't loan out your Nirschl OR your Alex...
