The Euphonium was made in Germany in 2014. I ordered the instrument from a local dealer, however the Besson factory didn’t have any 2051s in stock. The instrument was then built, tested and shipped directly to my home.
The instrument is free blowing in all registers. The valves are slick, making fast passages sound smooth and even. This instrument has a nice and dark sound. Being the smaller bell model, the sound isn’t overpowering and you will find it very easy to balance with others. Some high notes sound better and/or more in tune with alternate fingerings that buyers should be aware of: G: 2nd, B: 3rd, Db: 1st, D: 2nd (Note this is based on my experience with the instrument). The instrument collects a lot of spit. If you don’t remember to empty out the 4th valve spit, it will spew out of the 4th valve when you take the valve out. The spit catcher under the valve block fills up fast and needs to be emptied after every time the instrument is played.
I’ve only used Al Cass valve oil, Selmer slide grease, and trombone slide grease on the instrument. I rinse and brush out the inside of the instrument every two months using dishwashing soap and the Brass Savers brushes. The instrument has been professionally cleaned (Ultrasonic) twice and silver polished once.
The horn is currently located in Dallas, Texas. There will be no trial period for this instrument. If you’d like to see and play the instrument in person, you must meet with me. I am willing to drive a reasonable distance to meet with SERIOUS, potential buyers. If the horn is to be shipped, buyer will choose and pay for shipping method. I will pack the instrument in its original case and pay for all packing materials. WWBW is currently selling the Besson for $8,400 brand new. I am asking for $5,500 since the horn is in excellent condition and the horn is thoroughly broken in, however I am willing to negotiate. I will be accepting either a casher’s check or money order to be mailed to me. The instrument will be shipped or dropped off upon receipt of funds.
