I'm getting my Olds out of sickbay soooon...after quite awhile and it looks really nice. I'm going to keep it in raw brass and live with the occasional shine job.

I don't have any sort of case for it and would like to protect it when going from here to there. I've been carrying my Miraphone Standard Perinet without a case and it hasn't become riddled with pings and whatever but would like to keep the Olds as pure as possible for as long as possible.

My first choice would be a gig bag. Wessex sells one that looks pretty good and would fit for about $135 so a used one would have to beat that price.

Second choice would be a vinyl covered wood case such as this one: Taylor Music 136 3/4 Tuba Case $275

A used vinyl covered wood case would have to be much lower than the price of a new case.

My third choice would be a plastic/fiberglass case but it would have to be at a very bargain price.

Looking for the same - wondering if a gig bag really protects the valve stems which can get bent in the slightest accident.

Anybody know a storage bin that works? A lot that seem close, but haven't found a good one. Many look long enough but have protrusions for handles. There were some cool ammo-locker looking ones that weren't quite there.

I bought a used Supersac gig bag that came with someone's MW 2250. It fits my Olds like a glove. I haven't had any problems with the valve stems getting damaged.

This could work: Rubbermaid ActionPacker 48 gallon. Well, the lid doesn't quite close but close enough to hack.. Plenty of space to glue foam padding in.



Saved hundreds of dollars, maybe enough to actually get the horn fixed!

My middle school son has the Wessex bag for the similar Reynolds tuba. Both the horn and the bag have survived the school bus several times a week with no damage since December. I had to do a small sewing repair on the bag to correct a zipper defect when it arrived, but otherwise it has been outstanding. The design of the retractable shoulder straps, accessory pouches, and fit to the horn could not be better, and the thin foam padding is surprisingly dense and sturdy.

I have been thinking about the Wessex bag for my Conn 5J which I think is similar sized to the Olds 099-4 or Reynolds.

Did you get the Medium sized bag?
