FS at Dillon's: Matt's own M/W F tuba

Just a FYI ...Matt Walter's own Meinl Weston 6 rotor F tuba is up for sale at Dillon's. Anyone who has ever had Matt 'do his thing' on a tuba knows that if Matt picked out a tuba and 'tweaked' it, it is special.

Since Mark let the Cat is out of the bag, I just have to say....
Please don't buy my wonderful Meinl Weston 46 tuba.
Please buy a more expensive F tuba and preferably from my employer, Dillon Music.
The only F tubas that I have thought better than what I already own would cost me twice as much as what I am selling this one for. God help me if someone buys this and later I decide I want to play F tuba again. Every good tubist that has played it has agreed it's awesome. I bought it new in 1986. Sold it in 1996 when I really needed money. Then years later I bought it back for more than what I sold it for as I had not played a better F tuba in those years. Great response and intonation is enhanced with the Miraphone TU-21 mouthpiece. I played it for the first decade as my main tuba using a Giardinelli 18 mouthpiece.

Sorry to "screw" you over Matt...but...this tuba is great! All the great tonal color of an Alexander with none of the associated pitch problems. It's got a solid low end too, as I recall. Good luck with the sale!

It didn't "Help the low register". It helped the C below the staff which is often referred to as "the low register" on F tubas. When I opened the water key while playing the "C", the note no longer could be played. Most other notes could be played while that water key is open. Therefore, something acoustically for C below the staff was happening right at the spot. I trimmed a little cork to fill in the water key nipple area and the low C played better. Answer taken that there was a node or anti-node happening in that spot. The Saturn water key after it is filed to fit the wider contour of the tubing (originally made for trumpets), fits flusher to the tubing. Less resonance chamber to mess up the low C now.
Needed some kind of water key as all valve tubing dumped right down to that one area.
