FS: Wessex Luzern 5/4 5v Bb/Miraphone Gig bag/Wooden mute.
Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls of the tuba net forum,
Today I have decided to par with my Wessex Luzern due to the fact that it is not going to get much playing time because I am changing majors in school. So, with that being said, I am also selling this tuba along with many goodies that I’m sure would benefit someone a lot more than me.
Specs:
This is a Silver plated 5 rotor, 5/4 Bb tuba. Copy of a HIrsbrunner
Almost new condition, bought 4 months ago, everything is in tact aside from some minor, typical small scratches at the bottom of the bottom bow due to zippers and buttons of pants.
Bell: 450mm (18″)
5 rotary valves, 5th valve tuned to flat tone
Bore: 19.5 mm (0.77″)
Height: 904mm (35.6″)
Engraved valve caps
Nickel inner and outer slide
Gold brass bell and leadpipe
Valve adjustment screw for silent operation
Lightweight case with large wheels and strong straps – lined with plush red lining
Weight: 10.6 kg
Sound Examples:

Wessex promo Vid:

Personal opinion and use:
I have used this horn at my Universities Orchestra, symphonic band, large brass ensemble, and brass quintet.
In all these settings this tuba has delivered Solid intonation, great response in the high register(while staying in tune), and a killer low register. I have received many compliments from other players more or less along the lines of “The sound you produce with this very broad and engulfs the group with a great foundation.”
My teacher right after he blew a couple scales into it told me it blew just like a Hirsbrunner.
It has large sound, great dynamic range, spot on intonation. The only thing I would comment is that the way you blow into this rotary valve tuba is it requires a lot of slow air. I’m use to a bit more open blow feel, so when I received this horn it felt very different. Two weeks later I couldn’t put the horn down, the change in airflow this instrument requires allows me to maximize the air I use while having a really warm and open tone.
Extras:
Tuba comes with nice hard case with offroad wheels
I can throw in a Wessex Gig bag (135 dollar value)
I also purchased a very nice Miraphone gig bag that fits it like a glove, and that I feel offers much more protection than the Wessex (180 dollar value)
Wessex wooden tuba mute: fits nicely on the tuba that doesn’t create too much resistance and intonation problems. Very nice mute. (150 dollar value)
For all these items I am asking a solid 3,400 including shipping. I repeat, I will not charge for the packaging, materials or the shipping.
Any questions feel free to message me and I can try to send out more pics and vids of me performing with the tuba.

Where is the tuba currently located? If we are not far, I may want to set up a meeting place to try the instrument. Also, do you have any videos of you playing this tuba?
Thanks for your response and time.

Wessex asks $3525 for this instrument, with case and $200 flat rate FedEx shipping.
What is it about this instrument which makes it worth approximately the same price as a duplicate instrument brand new from the distributor with a distributor's warrantee?

He said he would include all the extra goodies and the shipping and handling in price, and it's still hundreds of $ cheaper than the street price. If the horn plays as great as he says, then yes it is a great deal. Yes you don't get the warranty, but if the horn has no defects to begin with, you should be okay. Most any wear and tear can be fixed at your local repair shop.

My friend there are a couple reasons why I decided the price to be what it is (still cheaper than what a new horn from wessex would be)The Big Ben wrote:Wessex asks $3525 for this instrument, with case and $200 flat rate FedEx shipping.
What is it about this instrument which makes it worth approximately the same price as a duplicate instrument brand new from the distributor with a distributor's warrantee?
1.the horn is in like new condition, no dings and no plating wear, just some tiny scratches at the bottom that aren't that noticeable unless you go out of your way to look for them
2. Shipping is included with the price, so that's already around 200 bucks in your favor that's coming out of the price.
3. All the goodies that come with the tuba amount to much more than what I should be asking, however I know there are many people that would put this great tuba to better use with these accesorios making it easier for them.
4. If someone decided they don't need gig bags or a mute, the price can be negotiated.
So essentially I'm selling and shipping a horn and around 300$ of gear for a total of around 200$ cheaper than a brand new wessex.
I believe it's a good deal, if you don't think so feel free to send me a message.

The horn doesn't have any defects, I even changed out the bumpers and had the rotary aligned because I didn't like the silicone bumpers that wear and tear from the factory. This tuba has some nice brand new neoprene bumpers.
