Bump for this.

It is a great tuba to have around. if you want to play outside with a group that is sometimes careless about movement, stands, racks of chairs, etc and you do NOT want your Yamayork/Nirschl/Gronitz/Alexander/York/Hirsbrunner/Adams/etc getting smashed up. It takes very little playing effort to make a loud loud sound, and it's cheap. I oiled & lubed it up & the valves have some pop.

I replaced the main tuning slide with a 1930s Reynolds slide. It was a perfect side-to-side fit, & would have been "plug & play" except the .750 I.d. tubing on the large side was thicker back in the 30s, so I had to use the newer legs, so no patches are on the slide.

I'm sure they're out there somewhere but probably as hard to find as a 2XJ upright bell. Custom made one would cost more than the horn. I always liked those stovepipe bells though. :) Too bad it's all the way up in New England. I'd probably buy it as is. Love the Olds/Reynolds tubas! :)

One way is to get a King or Conn Monster type bell, fit the male tenon of a broken olds/Reynolds Sousa to that bell, and have some lengthening tuning slide adapters made. Dan Schultz has made a bell of the correct height before.

I'd trade the big Olds straight across for a used one of these little tubas (and some other similar ones) that I've seen as low as $999 new, just because.
