FS: B&S Symphonie Price Drop! SOLD
I posted this a while back, but ended up not selling because I couldn't find a horn that compared in sound quality to mine. The horn was built in 1978 and still has the original linkage. It plays very even throughout and has a wonderfully rich sound even in the typically "stuffy" parts of F tuba.
A frequent tubenet poster has played, and almost purchased the horn this past year. He told me it might be the second best version of the horn he has ever played. He recommended updating the linkage (which i have been attempting for 8 months), and taking out the dents. He wanted to fix it and sell it for around $7000. Knowing what the estimated cost would be to get it into that condition, i am asking $5000 OBO.
Please contact me by PM with your email and I will send you pictures. I will also have the horn with me at the Florida Music Educators conference in Tampa if you would like to meet up and try it.
Happy New Year!

Re: FS: B&S Symphonie
It is a 5 valve and should sell super fast!!!!!!
I believe a certain 'bloke' knows this horn and has played it too....
It is serial# 138089.
Here is what Louis a.k.a. The Berliner Tuba had to say about it:
RSorenson,
Your tuba was built sometime around ca.1970 with the 1960s style halfround stock nickel silver braces, but with the 70s style valve block. If you have the serial number I could tell you the exact year...
Nice tuba, shame to sell it;)
Best regards from Berlin,
TheBerlinerTuba

Re: FS: B&S Symphonie
I should have mentioned that in the first post...
It is a 5 valve horn with 4 clock springs for the right hand and the 5th valve is designed for the left hand thumb.
There have been a couple of these in the past that have had the 5th valve moved to the right hand thumb, but i rather liked the uniqueness of it.
If you would like any recordings, please feel free to PM me.
Thanks!

Did this tuba ever spend any time in Houston?

Not that I know of. I purchased it in 2005 in Baltimore. Unfortunately I don't remember who I purchased it from.
