Sold. Thanks to all interested parties.

Dear TubeNetters,
For sale I'm offering my four-valve Conn 36J with a Miraphone Siegfried bell. All work on this tuba was done by Martin Wilk.

This tuba has a warm, enveloping, and clear sound, especially for a B-flat tuba. I've played this in a variety of ensembles although it best fits the role for which it was built: the heavier symphonic literature. That said I've had great success with this as my solo instrument; my high school students loved hearing (and seeing!) this on Tubby the Tuba over the winter program.

Description from the original seller:
"This is an unlacquered 4 piston with no dents [side note: no dents, albeit water spots and some minor scratches on upper bow near bell ferrule are visible, from use]. The valves are in good condition, having been recently overhauled. The pitch is quite good. ...the F is not terribly flat - the Siegfried bell probably helped that. The D in the staff was a little off, but 1 and 2 is not uncommonly used for the that.

Most notable is the response. The horn has had the big Conn guards replaced with thin narrow guards and the bell is relatively light. It is very even and responds more like a CC than a BBb - very facile and articulate. It may be one of the lightest 6/4 BBbs you'll see.

36J valves are incredible - they are not like the 2XJ series with the squashed ports - these ports are very clear and open [all four valves are vented]. The sound is very clear and powerful, in particular the low register, but the middle and high are very accessible and articulate across the range. If you wanted to play a solo on a 6/4 BBb, this horn would be a good choice.

The slide wrap has been changed to make it more accessible for tuning. The first, third and fourth slides have been shortened - old style pitch solutions favored much longer slides than we use today."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Selling because while this is the best tuba I've ever owned, perhaps will ever own, I've been offered back my 2145 I dearly miss. I truly enjoy this horn and its sound; the craftsmanship and overall quality is most excellent.
The tuba comes with a very good condition black leather Cronkhite bag. Located just south of Cincinnati, Ohio. Open to you coming and trialing here in NKY; includes a beer and some good company. Please email austin dot delarosa @ gmail dot com for further inquiries.
Thanks for your interest.
I played this tuba for a week, not too long ago and it's fantastic! If you're looking for a big piston BBb tuba, look no further. The craftsmanship in assembly and the valve action are awesome and the pitch is really good. Austin is a standup guy and whoever gets this tuba will be thrilled with it.
Good luck with the sale!
What were the main differences between this model of 36J (the grand orchestral version I believe?), and the 2 piece recording 36J? The top bows look different and some of the plumbing too. Always wanted to play one of these.
