My name is Hunter Farley and I am a tuba student at the university of Memphis. I am in the process of selling my Rudi Meinl 4/4 F tuba. This is a great tuba with a great sound and it used to belong to Tommy Johnson. The valve set up is six rotary valves (5+1). I am looking to get $6500 for the horn. Is there a name stamped into the thumb 5th valve lever? I serviced the late Tommy Johnson's Rudolf Meinl F-tuba not too long after he passed, and the LA - area technician that converted the 5th valve from left-hand to right-hand had stamped his name into the lever.
There are two of the older-style Rudolf Meinl F-tubas I've played that really stood out from the rest as being user-friendly and having much better-than-most response and good intonation, and this was one of them. If I had any reason to own and play an F-tuba these days, I would not be posting this, but trying to buy it myself.
