I'm selling this tuba that I put together that uses a combination of modern and vintage parts selected for playability and sound.
I took a lot of time and tried to make this one as nice as I possibly could, and it is indeed really nice. I used a vintage Conn "giant" Eb bell and Boem and Meinl bows with the John Packer cluster, a Nickel silver W. Nirschl leadpipe with some slight trimming and a J.W. York and Sons receiver. I think this tuba really bridges the gap between a big York and the Conn Donatelli. It has a great balance of light and dark in the sound. It really sounds quite a bit like a leaner York 91, with less "puff". It has good intonation and is just a little bigger (and darker sounding) than a Conn Donatelli.
Located in MA. I may be contacted through PM, or the CL link.

Re: Cool custom CC tuba
I played this horn on Saturday, it is a true 5/4 Tuba, which is rare!
Big Dark Vintage Sound, Good Intonation, and easy, responsive low end.
It's like a 56J on steroids. I really enjoyed this tuba!
Tabor's work gets cleaner every time he builds one, too!
Well worth the price.
best,
Frank Ortega

Thanks for playing it, Frank! It was great to hear it in the room out from under the bell.

Cool horn. Too bad I never learned c fingerings. I'm pretty much a Bb hack.

Re: $7250 CC 5/4 tuba
I'll bet this one sweet ride. If I weren't in need of rotors at this late stage of my life . . .

This is indeed a "sweet ride". I also will consider trades of tubas and parts of tubas as part of the payment.
