Hello TubeNet,

I have for sale a Besson 995 prototype originally made for Patrick Sheridan.
It is a great all-around CC with full low range and a ringing easy high range. It plays very well and there are few intonation quirks. The metal seems a little thinner and overall lighter in weight than other 995's that I've played (Both German and English). It does have a large receiver, I've found the best results with pt model mouthpieces and my Sidey Classic Euro shank. All pistons are vented and the first slide is lapped. There is some wear on the bottom bow, but no dents in crucial areas. The horn in located in Houston and comes with a black Cronkhite bag.

Will consider trades for an f or rotory CC tuba.
Price $7,000. PM if interested.

Cheers!

Wasn't Walter Nirschl directly or indirectly involved with the creation of this horn?

I spent some time with this tuba last week while mine was in the shop. As someone who has owned both a British and a German version of these I can tell you that this prototype outperforms both of the ones I’ve owned. It has THE BEST valves I’ve ever played and a large focused sound. The handmade components make it the physically the lightest 4/4 Nirschl-like tuba I’ve ever picked up. This may contribute to its exceptional response and unique color of sound.

I can’t believe this one of a kind, HANDMADE, 4/4+ (small 5/4), pro CC hasn’t been sold at this price. It’s also a cool piece of history.

Unsolicited bump for Nathan!

Can only speak for a std. 995, but if this is better it's awesome.

Yes. The Besson 995 is essentially the Nirschl 4/4 CC tuba with a two piece leadpipe. There is virtually no other difference. Okay, a different name is stamped on it. Get a Nirschl leadpipe and convert your $5k Besson into an $8k Nirschl.
