SOLD Nirschl 4/4 CC Tuba SOLD

Post by johnhadden »

Hello, Tubenet!

I've posted this before, but I'm happy to do so again. I'm looking to sell my 4/4 Nirschl CC Tuba to any interested tubist! I'm selling because I intend to purchase a B&S or Meinl Weston tuba.

I purchased this tuba from a colleague in 2013 (I think, I may be one year off on that). Ever since it has served me immensely well. I have advanced to the finals or semi-finals or various groups including The "President's Own" Marine Band, The West Point Academy Band, The US Army Field Band, and New World Symphony. I used this horn to finish out my undergrad degree at USF and then for my Master's in Performance at Indiana University with Dan Perantoni where I was on a Graduate Fellowship. The horn is a fantastic example of Walter's work.

I can't seem to find the serial number, but if anyone's got ideas of where it is on the horn, I'm happy to investigate!

It has regular dents for a horn that's been in constant use (very minimal, well taken care of). There is some marks around the steel rod that makes up the tip of the bell shape because it had to be heated at some point. There is also plate wear in a few spots that is relatively minor.

Asking $9000 OBO. Comes with a pretty well kept gig bag and an MTS case which I've used to fly with it 3 times with no problem. Will be chemically cleaned and polished before sale.

Email me for pics or questions!

I looked and found nothing.

There's a "40" on top of the actual valve (1st). Know if that means anything?

Weren't all of those handmade? Perhaps 40 is the serial number? It wouldn't surprise me. Those horns seem to be rather uncommon.

I think that "40" is called the "bench number" or something like that. So when the tuba was built they would know that all the parts go to the same horn. My Willson has "02" on like every single part, slide, etc...
